I walk home from work like a tourist

The Bay Bridge

San Francisco, like any tourist-heavy town, is filled with people who say things like “I’ve never gone to Alcatraz even though I’ve lived here my whole life” or “I’ve lived in the city for ten years but I’ve never ridden a cable car.” Now, I wasn’t born in this part of the country nor do I live in the city, but I can say that until last week, I’ve never walked The Embarcadero, which is a partial lie. I guess it would be correct to say: I’ve never regularly walked along The Embarcadero and taken in the sights as if I were a tourist.

A change in jobs forces a change in the commute. One of the “perks” of my new job is the walk to BART at the end of the day along the breezy and calming span of land that houses various ports, stores and bars. And the guest of honor? The glorious Bay Bridge, with its jazz hands and introverted grace.
