Arizona: Spring 2007—pizza
April 3, 2007
This is an entry about Pizza, Travel with no comments
The theme of pizza briefly emerged during our recent jaunt to Arizona. This trip was ½ N’s sister’s wedding reception and ½ N seeing her family for her birthday. Somewhere in the back of our minds we also wanted to eat at Pizzeria Bianco since it 1. is in Phoenix and 2. we like pizza, but most importantly 3: we’ve tried to go a few times but they are always closed (holiday hours, mostly) yet the incredible anticipation about the pies made there must be forgotten about (not an option) or tasted and realized soonish.
So we headed to AZ early in the morning, flying out of Oakland. We had time to wait at a gate near the pizza/bagel place for a few hours (flight delayed).

I can appreciate that people waiting for flights will act like stoners. And while I certainly have eaten pizza at 7:30am, it is usually cold out of the fridge and doesn’t cost $7.50 a slice.
We had bigger pizza plans, so once landed in Arizona and once I was done killing time in a mall/Borders for three hours while N and her mom were massaged, we headed to Pizzeria Bianco. Turns out you need to be there well before 4:00 to get inside when the doors open an hour later.

I’ve read about the lines that form out front, and here I was finally in the middle of one.
Long story short: we did not wait three hours outside, drinking beer and wine from Bar Bianco. We went and had Thai food with the family. We’ll get ‘em over Christmas next year. We’ll meet again, pizza place!!
