Year of the Artichoke

First: I had been pronouncing it “ar-tee-choke” and apparently it is, well, it is pronounced correctly, probably how you say it anyway.
Second: When we would visit my grandmother in Revere, MA and have a big italian feast, there was a joke that had the punchline: “Artichoke: three for a dollar.” I still don’t get it.
More: The grandmother in the above mentioned made a stuffed artichoke, cramming that baby full of sauce and breadcrumbs. That was probably the dish I remember the most. Stuffed artichokes: haven’t had them in 16 years or so, would like to again. Seems like something I could make.
Finish: I remember eating the leaves the wrong way! N. showed me how to scrape the stalk-y part with your teeth NOT USE IT AS A HANDLE. It blew my mind a little.
